Card Schemes
CONSTRUCT continues to lobby CSCS/CPCS/NPORS, to provide a coordinated and flexible response to card expiry. Our lobbying activity resulted in some useful flexibility for card expiry and renewals, and we are in contact again as more restrictions are put in place by government.
CSCS
CSCS are asking employers and those responsible for site access and card checking procedures to use their discretion towards workers whose cards have expired since March 2020 onward. But as always, a worker should be holding the correct card for the job they do on site.
CSCS has extended the grace period for card renewals from 6 months after the card expires to 12 months. This means that the card can be renewed, once the CITB HS&E test has been passed, up to one year from the card’s expiry date. The aim here is to assist those applicants struggling to find availability to sit the test and renew their card.
Our Asks from CSCS in March and their Response, highlighted the extended grace period for card renewals from 6 to 12 months, and they have removed the requirements.
NPORS
Our consultation with NPORS has also led to the confirmation of the 6 month registration extension which applies to both the NPORS traditional cards and the NPORS/CSCS cards.
Our Asks from NPORS in March and NPORS’ response highlighted that they are extending operator cards by 6 months and provided their latest guidance.
CPCS
CPCS have set up a Temporary COVID-19 Card which is valid for 12 months and can be issued where operatives cannot sit the HS&E Test. It costs £15 and can be applied for online.
