The CONSTRUCT Concrete Structures Group General Manager, Ian Burnett was delighted to be invited to visit sites to see work being carried out by Oliver Connell & Son Ltd (OC & Son Ltd) escorted by David Sheath, OC & Son Ltd.’s Health and Safety Director. Long-time member of CONSTUCT, OC & Son Ltd are a are a specialist groundwork, civil engineering, RC Frames, architectural concrete, rail & aviation subcontractor based in West London.
Ian was able to see first-hand the excellent work being carried out by OC & Son Ltd at Lombard Square a Berkeley Homes project in Plumstead as well at the Mace project in Heathrow Airport.
Lombard Square – Works include construction of concrete frame mixed-use development. Ian and David met with some of OC & Son Ltd.’s site team including Martin McGrath Project Manager and Danny Bura Senior Site Foreman to discuss site layout, work progression and safety procedures being implemented on site. On site Ian was able to see a well-managed site with organised access routes and tidy storage of resources specifically steel reinforcement which was laid on bites with angled spacers to ensure easy access and neat storage. OC & Son Ltd.’s operatives were seen working diligently carrying out their work duties in line with site rules and procedures.
Heathrow Airport – Works include the full supply and installation of all PCC drain runs and in-situ RC inspection chambers. Ian and David met with Patsy Connell, Project Manager for OC & Son Ltd.’s and discussed the complexities involved in working airside at one of the world’s busiest airports. After going through the stringent security controls Ian & David went airside and were able to see operatives working with the highest level of security and safety controls within a live operational airport. It was good to see that careful consideration had been given to unique hazards prevalent when working on a live airport such as preventing any debris getting onto the runway by weighting down resources.
